Letters from Captivity (2)
The Diary of Ginny Blackwell
Day 3 of Captivity
I dreamed about the secret garden last night. I’m grateful to have a space where we can meet in our minds while we dream, without fear of discovery.
Gabriel looks away every time I mention Jerry. I can see the tension in his shoulders and his jaw, but he doesn’t say anything. I appreciate that he doesn’t try to change my mind or kidnap me. He knows where to find me.
Last night, he gave me my first mission. There is a demon named Kane that wants to infiltrate the Human Advancement Group. I’m supposed to figure out how he can approach Jerry.
I don’t know much about the modern world so everything is a challenge. There was a phone left in the hollow of a tree in the land surrounding Jerry’s estate. I took a walk early this morning to retrieve it. I wore loose pants. I checked around me, nervous about the bulk of the cell phone in my pocket.
When I got back, Mr. Bartholomew called out to me for my cooking lessons. I asked him to wait, said I needed to go to the bathroom. I went straight to the en suite. I put the phone on silent, then put it inside the box for feminine products. No one would go looking for it there.
I washed my hand, making circles with the soap to calm myself. I washed my face and dried it, taking my time. After my nerves had settled, I went to the kitchen and began lessons on how to make chicken soup. My celery pieces were too big and the chicken ended up getting overcooked so it was a bit chewy. Jerry is not pleased, but I’m getting used to that.
I added extra spices to his food. He said he likes spices, and it had the unexpected boon of giving him a runny nose. When he left to look for tissue, it gave me the perfect opening to scan his phone with the device that I’d been carrying all night. Tomorrow, I’ll go out to the hollow tree and leave it there. My first mission was a success!
Soon, I hope to visit the secret garden again. I’d like to ask Gabriel to teach me how to defend myself.

The feminine urge to have a secret garden. Lovely story!
